Characters – Who has Control?Published August 25, 2015
I’ve discovered after working for some years as a writer, that I may have control of the character when I begin to create him or her. However, once this character has gained enough substance, sometimes he or she steals control from me.
For example, currently I’m working on the bio of Elizabeth Rancor, whom I had planned as a minor character for this current novel. What I’m noticing, though, is that she seems to be pulling me into the details of her life to a point where she may just turn out to be more than minor.
Do I have control in this situation? To be honest, I really don’t know. She is certainly making sure that she’s heard from, and in great detail, I might add.
